It is so cool to watch this program gain national attention. I know that the folks at the publishing house and foundation are really working hard to make this all happen. The results are amazing! Just this week I found out that one of the schools that we are visiting next week have raised almost $1700.00 for the food bank as part of the Paper Palace program. It is such an honor to be a part of all that is going on.

I know that the Second Harvest Food Bank is going to gain so much from all of this press! Congrats!

Cheers!

Wow. What can I say? The celebration of the second printing of Izzy at Dior, Beverly Hills was amazing. And, the best part was how many of my friends made the effort to come up and be a part of it. I know that it was a long drive for some of you folks, but I appreciate it deeply. Jamie and Ken - thanks for coming to play with us! Our lives are so enriched by both of you. Thank you.

Once again, the people at Dior were amazing - Lauren, Taylor, Alison, Stephanie, Lucy - all of you and the managers and staff for the event were the best of the best. You made all of my family feel a part of your family. The fund raising that you have done for the Candy Palace/MMJ foundation is mind-boggling. Thank you for your support, professionalism, and friendship.

Also, thank you to Debi Mazar and her daughter who took some time to stop in and say hello, and buy books. It was wonderful to meet you! I had fun drawing with both of you. You made a special event even more wonderful.

Thanks to Ariella, Jennifer, Dana, and everyone at the JCC for the wonderful Martin Luther King Art and Creativity event! It was so much fun. Thank you to all of the wonderful artists who came to play - Veronica Walsh, Kim Dwinell, Katie McDee, Bob Singer, JR Johnson, and Marilyn Scott Waters. You are all amazing folks!

We played with over 125 kids and their families! It was a wonderful mash up of art, story telling, and charity work.

It is awesome to be able to do what we love and to be given a chance to give back to the community. Thanks for the opportunity! We look forward to working more with the JCC!

Cheers!

Thanks to Niyaz Pirani and Ana Venegas for all of their help to bring this issue public! Our libraries need help. They are becoming the silent victims of the economy and of "standards based" thinking. We cannot lose them. The librarians and our books are too important for our all of us!!

All of the families at Viejo Elementary thank the artists, businesses (like the wonderful Lulu's cafe, who provided yummy food for us!!), and the families, faculty, and staff - (AND KIDS!) who contributed their hard-earned money and valuable time to our library and our community.

This week Studio 5 began a library mural project with the families at Viejo Elementary, in the Capistrano Valley School District. We are creating the mural to bring attention to the bad condition of elementary school libraries - especially at our older district schools. They have books and technology that need to be replaced, lighting issues, a lack of choice for students on the shelves. We have a fantastic principal, faculty, and staff who are bending over backwards to help our site, but this is an alarming problem on many levels. We suspect, for many schools throughout California and the U.S.
