Biography
Resident Professor Rebecca Stanton has been teaching in the School of Education at Concordia University, Irvine, since 2005, specializing in differentiated instruction, secondary teaching methods, and classroom management. Prior to coming to Concordia University, she taught German and beginning drama for 9 years at the high school level; math, science, and religion for one year at the junior high school level; and German at the university level for 4 years. She enjoyed taking students on educational trips to Europe and New York City, and she and her husband are currently planning a children's literature tour of the UK for 2011.
Dr. Stanton earned her Bachelor of Arts in German with a minor in Russian from the University of Arizona in 1991, her Master of Arts in German Literature from the University of California, Irvine in 1993, and her California Teaching Credential from Concordia University, Irvine in 1995. She conducted postgraduate work in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching at the University of Arizona. In 2006, she earned her Doctor of Education degree from Argosy University, Orange County. Her dissertation was entitled An Evaluation of the Effectiveness of the Mentor Teacher Program at a Catholic High School in Orange County, California.
Beyond her teaching duties, Dr. Stanton is the Assistant Director of the Regional Off-Campus M.A. Program. She has presented on using art projects as pre-writing activities at the National Differentiated Instruction Conference in July 2009, the Whittier College Children's Literature Conference in April 2010, and the Concordia University Linking Literacy Conference in May 2010. She also assisted the CUI Theater Department when they needed choreography for an Irish step dance scene, as she has been Irish dancing since 2004.
